VIMA's CEO to Lead Discussion on Image Search at Next Annual ASPP Education Conference
"How does visual searching work? How well does it work? What's involved in putting search based on visual clues
onto a site?"
Santa Barbara, CA - February 14th, 2006
- VIMA Technologies’ President and CEO, David Telleen-Lawton, was asked to lead a non-commercial session on,
"Searching Stock Photo Images by Visual Clues: How's It Working?" at the ASPP (American Society of
Picture Professionals) Education Conference, hosted this year in San Francisco March 23rd through March 26th.
VIMA was selected in part because of their leadership in providing
image search solutions which use the image itself to find similar images that represent a concept portrayed in an
individual picture or related to a group of pictures. RawTalent Photo, ArtToday (now owned by JupiterMedia), Danita
Delimont, MediaBakery, Corbis, and 20/20 software have all licensed VIMA’s MindReader™ active-learning technology.
"From our very formation, our development team recognized that the
single click, query-by-example solution was not satisfying to image collection owners nor to their clients. It’s a
technology that’s been around since the mid-90’s and its success on any particular search is hit-or-miss and highly
dependent upon the collection and the starting point. With image creation and collection expanding dramatically,
we knew there would be a necessity to locate images in dramatically faster and more satisfying ways. We’ve come up with a
solution that is quickly recognized as superior because it uses active learning feedback for the researcher to find the
right images faster than scrolling through a page or two or too many random images," explained David Telleen-Lawton,
VIMA’s CEO.
David Telleen-Lawton, President & CEO of VIMA Technologies has spent
considerable time with stock photo agencies and photo buyers understanding the benefits and fit of image search based on
visual clues. He will discuss what his clients and clients of other solutions have learned about the value of
implementing search based on visual clues including important implementation questions as: How does image search based
on visual clues get added to an existing website? Other than software licensing, what does it cost to integrate? How
long will it take to be up and running?
