Who We Are
VIMA Technologies is a technology solutions company founded in January 2001 by scientists from the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) and from Stanford University who have extensive experience in analysis, indexing, and retrieval of multimedia information.

What We Do
With patented and patent-pending technologies, VIMA has raised the standard for automatic pornographic image detection and for perceptually accurate retrieval of images from large collections.  We focus on providing software modules that enhance our customers' solution offerings by doing a better job of keeping pornography out of electronic communication and by augmenting keyword search tools with search functionality that utilizes image content.  For the past five years, VIMA has been successfully identifying an extractable feature set that is effective for image content filtering and image content categorization as well as for retrieval of perceptually similar images from large image collections.   We employ machine learning and adaptive learning techniques to create sophisticated model files to achieve the accuracy required for automatic image categorization and for retrieving similar-looking images.

Why We Do It
With the explosion of digital imagery driven by the proliferation of image capture devices and high-speed access to the Internet, it is no longer possible for people and organizations to annotate the majority of images in their growing collections.  Through the latest mathematical techniques and years of trial, VIMA has identified extractable image features the can provide perceptually better filtering and image retrieval results.   We believe there is an increasing demand for automatic image categorization and better image retrieval functionality.   We believe we can deliver breakthrough capabilities to help companies that want to create image products and services.
